Description:

APCO has an exciting opportunity for a full time Electrical Design Engineer in our control and automation consulting firm and its related businesses. We are looking for candidates who are self-driven, problem solvers, and able to work effectively with others. The successful candidate will be able to support the needs of our clients and deliver safe, robust control implementations in a variety of industries.

Job Functions

  • Design power systems within industrial facilities

  • Design and document control system architectures in a variety of industries

  • Validate construction and provide QA of various fabricated equipment such as control panels, VFD enclosures and MCCs

  • Assist with automation projects, including PLC programming, HMI programming etc.

  • Provide testing, commissioning, and startup services for provided systems in several industries

  • Engineer controls solutions to address customer needs and concerns.

  • Supervise or assist with CAD design on specified projects

  • Specify instrumentation and provide ISA data sheets where applicable

  • Ensure that delivered projects meet provided client specifications

  • Coordinate effectively with other staff members on larger projects

  • Support less experienced employees in their development

  • Document project progress

  • Develop and implement engineering standards according to client needs

  • Provide training to clients about delivered systems

  • Willingness to travel; Most projects take place along the Wasatch Front, but some projects may require travel

Desirable Skills and Experience (experience expected in some subset of the following): 

  • BS or MS in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university

  • 2+ years of design or controls experience in an industrial setting (water/wastewater, refining, mining, manufacturing, chemical processing)

  • Thorough understanding of electrical diagrams, AC motors and various power types

  • Demonstrated strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or other CAD applications

  • SCADA, PLC, HMI experience preferred

  • VBA, Python, or other scripting languages preferred

  • Network design experience preferred
